In recent years, the solid waste disposal in the environment is being rethought in order to encourage the process of composting of organic waste. Composting is the transformation of materials, like leftover food, pruning of trees and plants in a nutrient-Rico: humus.
It is a viable alternative for enterprises that wish to take advantage of the waste generated in its facilities. Viable solution also for the allocation of organic waste at home. Humus can be used in landscaping and in the gardens cultivated without the use of pesticides.
Bars, restaurants and hotels are examples of threads that have used the system to better manage the waste they produce. In many cases, the humus extracted enough playing part of the funding of the activities of companies such as the Verdegreen Hotel in João Pessoa (PB), which supplies about 70 percent of its demand with own production.
Another good example is Shopping Eldorado in São Paulo, which has implemented a project in which the organic waste from food court go through composting and are used in a garden, grown on the roof of the building.
The composting process consumes 14 tonnes of waste per month (28% of total raised). The garden of 1,000 m ², produced three crops in a year. The process of composting of solid waste is a great alternative to decrease the waste to be disposed of in the environment, stimulate a culture of reuse and, in many cases, minimize costs affects the productive activity.
